The Sharing Economy: How I See It -- New

I have used a few sharing economy applications in the past and nearly all of them in Thailand such as Uber, Grab and foodpanda apart from Airbnb.  My overall impression towards these applications is good because they are convenient to use, and have reliable systems.  For example, when I order a food delivery and there is no riders available, the system will automatically cancel my order within 10 minutes and make a full refund payment to my credit card.

In terms of future developments, specifically in food delivery businesses, I think the business size will grow and cover more numbers of restaurants, cafes, coffee shops because many users get used to the convenience of getting food without leaving their houses or their workplace.  In addition, the coverage area of food delivery could continue to expand in the future on the condition that there is still rising demand for the delivery.

In terms of the sharing economy businesses that I use at present, I have been staying at homestay since I came here in 2025.  I think one of the main strengths of staying at homestay is having an opportunity to learn and live with local family.  I can immerse myself in New Zealand’s culture and get more life experiences that help me to become more independent.  However, I also face some difficulties such as differences in food and culture and staying in a house with someone I don’t know before in a long period of time which at first, it was quite challenging for me.

In terms of the application that I would like to try is Foodprint because I think it is a very smart idea to manage with food waste problem.  Moreover, I can help to reduce food waste which can cause Global Warming and at the same time I can get food with good price as well.  In addition, I also want to try BeKiwi because it offers hands-on experience workshops such as attending pottery, bone carving and jewelry making.

In terms of the how our use of such apps would change in the future, I think in the future, it is possible that AI will help users to use the application more efficiently.  AI could help users to compare prices between different applications that offer similar products or services.  This will help encourage users to enjoy using sharing economy applications because they will pay less money and easy to compare all the prices.

  1. Uh, thank you for reminding me of BeKiwi. That sounds appealing, maybe we can try it together.

  2. Shortage of food and water is serious problems all over the world. Disposing food we don't eat results in huge gap between poor and wealth. I believe sharing ecnomy helps this situation. Really straightfoward explanation!

  3. Your points about food delivery services are interesting. I guess there are some benefits involved if they grow in popularity. I wonder if their more widespread adoption might lead to energy savings as deliverers could deliver to several customers in each journey which would have a smaller global footprint than if each individual or group drove to a restaurant or fast food provider to order & pick up their food. On the other hand though, do you think there might be staff losses involved if more and more people choose to order meals on apps as opposed to eating them at restaurants?
I like your point about AI. If AI can assist consumers to compare prices, I think this is a good thing.
    Cheers,
    David
